GET HOME SAFELY

If you decide to go for a drink when you have your car it’s easy to be tempted to drive home afterwards, especially if you’ve only had a small amount. However, even a small amount can affect the speed of your reactions and compromise your ability to drive. The safest thing to do is find an alternative way to get home.

DESIGNATED DRIVER

If you live in a more rural area where there is less public transport this is a great option – especially if you take turns with your friends. Or if you’re going on a night out or to a party with friends, take it in turns to volunteer to drive home. Club together to pay for petrol for the designated driver, and get them a present as a thank you.

CALL SOMEONE

If possible call someone you know to come and pick you up. A friend or relative would rather you got home safely than risked losing your licence and getting a criminal record.

STAY OVER

Stay at a friend’s or relatives until you’re sure you’re safe to drive. Although a hotel or B&B may seem like a luxury, it’s still going to be cheaper and safer than driving home after drinking.

USE A SERVICE LIKE SCOOT TO DRIVE YOU HOME

Scoot drivers come to your car on a fold-away scooter and drive you home. This may be cheaper than a two-way taxi fare.
